Currently, I am using ‘Cobalt Next” theme for my VS Code which has an even darker version for a more subtle color palette which is soothing on the eye for long programming hours. With so many good options available for a dark theme in Visual Studio Code, it is hard to pick just one as favorite. Below I have selected some of the best ones I could find that do nice job in syntax highlighting of many different programming languages and provide coherent color scheme to the entire VS code interface including the status bar. The Dark+ theme which is the default dark theme of VS Code and the Monokai theme are two great options for dark theme lovers.Īpart from the pre-installed themes, you can find many more themes for VS Code in its extensions marketplace. In VS Code, open the File Icon Theme picker with File > Preferences > Theme > File Icon Theme. I was finding that I needed to: open options, select the blue theme, copy my code to the clipboard, open options again, and reselect the dark theme. The problem is so obvious it seems the people who made the dark theme don’t actually use it day to day. When pasting to some programs, you get white text on a white background. And the formatting issue can get even worse. Clearly what most of us want is the second paste attempt. What we get in the first paste attempt is a WYSIWYG copy of the formatting from Visual Studio. When copying code to an email, Word, or your IM window, you realize the dark theme has a dark side: I simply want to discuss an undesirable side effect affecting Copy & Paste (don’t forget Cut too). Look, it doesn’t matter what I think of the dark theme. ![]() But before updating, I tried the dark theme… and I liked it! As our phones and tablets often use dark themes and websites are being remade to look like tablet apps, the dark theme had a modern look to it and is easy on the eyes. I need something that will actually look at all of the existing settings and extract them into. I've installed the Visual Studio Color Theme Designer 2022, but it requires me to choose a theme to use as a 'seed' which is unacceptable. Sure, after installing the updates, the blue theme was good. I am trying to find a way to create an actual theme from my existing settings in VS2022. I recently upgraded to VS2012 and, like most of you, was aghast at the default theme.
